Margaret Laurence, my favorite author

When I read a book written by my favorite author, the Canadian writer Margaret Laurence (1926-1987), I feel like wanting to write myself – immediately, in her way. That’s the greatest compliment for someone: that you want to be that person and/or that you like to sing, write, act or play like that person, in his or her style/way.

I had that with the tennis-player Björn Borg: I copied his double-handed backhand and his calmness on the court. I had that with Elvis: I wanted his voice to sing with. I had that with John Lennon: I tried to write songs in the way he did it.

Everything that Margaret Laurence wrote, is so recognizable for me, is so familiar to me… She is my book-heroine…
